Not all states treat non-compete agreements in the same manner. Some allow for their enforcement while others do not. Consider, on one end of the spectrum you have a few number of states that generally do not enforce non-compete agreements, like California. On the other end you have states like Florida, whose current law on non-completes instructs courts examining a non-compete case to "not consider any individualized economic or other hardship that might be caused to the person against whom enforcement is sought." Most states fall closer to Florida than they do to California.

Compare and contrast 4 states non-complete laws with one of the four being a state that does NOT recognize these types of agreements. Some considerations for comparison include: does the state permit or not these types of agreements. What are the standards? What are the exemptions? Specific business interests the law is aiming to protect? Reformation? Duration of restrictions? Geographic scope of restrictions? And any other features you find worthy of comparison.
