The Ministry of Education has decided that all the schools in a country must be interconnected back to the Ministry of Education (MOE). A decision has been taken to complete a trial at the regional level and have one school in each region function in the capacity of regional headquarters for that region. A certain region has three schools located in south Trinidad. The school which functions as the regional headquarters is located in city area, and the other two schools are located in more rural areas, within a ten (10) mile radius of the regional headquarters school. The regional headquarters school has fifteen (15) staff members while the other two schools have ten (10) and seven (7) staff members respectively. The regional headquarters school is provided with high-speed Internet access from the local telephone company, and all the staff members have laptops provided by the MOE, IP phones and Internet access. For the schools in the rural areas, each has one desktop computer and no network is in place. One of the schools is located in a rural area where there is no local ISP and no telephone infrastructure. All schools are required to use the same Schools Information Management System (SIMS) software, which currently applies. This means that the schools without any Internet/ network access has to physically take their data back to the regional headquarters school. The present COVID-19 situation is what is driving this initiative as the need to provide pupils with an online experience becomes the new normal. Therefore, both students and teachers are now required to work from home. Teachers are still required to maintain their school records, such as taking roll, etc. The requirement is for each school to be connected to one central network which connects back to the regional headquarters. There is a requirement also for each school to provide at least one computer as a workstation where parents can come in and print out work for students that do not have devices/ access to the Internet at home. Parents can also download and save the assignments on portable USB flash drives/ other portable media, so that their children can have access to it. The assignments are stored on a central FTP server located in the regional headquarters, to which the standalone parents' desktop have access. This desktop cannot access any other part of the network. Students/ parents can also come and upload their completed assignments to this FTP server. Your assignment is to design a complete network solution for this school region. Upon initial planning, the following network requirements have been identified:
Purchase and setup the proper networking equipment (including an IP addressing solution) within each rural school in order for a secure, highly-available connection back to the regional headquarters. The SIMS in place at the rural school locations are consistent with the main office.
Provide kiosks at the all locations with Internet access for parent use. These kiosk machines should only be able to access online assignments, held at the FTP server and not be able to access any of the other network resources. It should also allow the ability to print the assignments on a local printer.
Provide for centralized printing of school materials as needed from any location
Provide for limited downtime
Provide for centralized management and control of the computers in the two rural schools, as well as those at the regional headquarters, so that you can maintain the network from off-site
Provide for long-term cost effectiveness
Provide a suite of software tools for the employees to effectively communicate with each other at all locations
Provide Internet access for all locations
Provide company email services
Provide company web hosting services
Provide an IP telephone to all employees.
Provide teleworker services
