Oil and gas activity has created a lot of jobs in the United States. The growth in the economy, especially in states such as North Dakota and Montana that once were in serious need of economic relief, has been largely attributed to the exploration and development of oil and gas. There is, however, concern that oil and gas activity contributes to air and water pollution. Some people claim that oil and gas development contributes to climate change.
