Olive lives in a large society where everyone has very specialized tasks. She works in the restaurant industry, which has a division of labor including positions such as butchers, various cooks and chefs, servers, managers, bartenders, hosts, and dishwashers.

Jack lives in a more primitive community that is less specialized, where people work together to complete similar tasks. Everyone in the small town pitches in to help and no tasks are split between several people. There is no restaurant industry. The local people pitch in to help with what is needed to get food on the table.

The solidarity that binds Olive's community is while Jack's community is integrated by solidarity.
