Question:
One of the four basic types of problems identified by Drucker (2008) is the generic event that is common within the organization and throughout the industry. He goes on to tell us that all but the truly unique events require a generic solution. Generic problems can be answered with standard rules and practices (Drucker, 2008). Neilson, Martin and Powers (2008) tell us that the fundamentals of good execution start with clarifying decision rights and making sure information flows where it needs to go; Everyone has a good idea of the decisions and actions for which he or she is responsible. Further again, our Unit 3 course notes on decision making refers to Programmed Decisions, defining them as highly routine decisions made according to pre-established organizational policies and procedures.
Question
With the above in mind, describe any decision-making tools or processes you are familiar with in your current or previous organization. Were these tools effective in assisting with making decisions regarding generic problems?
