onflict is bound to happen in any professional workplace one way or the other. Hierarchy and differences in beliefs are one of the few factors that contribute to conflict, as an established culture in a unit is more likely to alienate a new employee. Some nurses and physicians have a hierarchy mindset, where you need a certain amount of experience or upbringing to be able to ask for their support. This behavior can often be seen as cliques which varies in each workplace, and makes conflict resolution more difficult especially during periods of high stress. Nurses and physicians are often overworked, and do not have the time to be able to resolve conflicts. (Delak, et al., 2022) Fortunately, conflict management can easily be taught quickly. (White, et al., 2020) Having a manager who is skilled at conflict resolution is one of the best ways to prevent conflict, as a prudent manager would have excellent communication skills and empathy to be able to prevent workplace violence. As for the employees, being able to address the root cause without presenting it in an accusatory or aggressive manner can help resolve the issue without having to escalate.
