Consultants are versatile in their skills and any consultant can handle any customer request. The firm is open from 7 am to 5 pm and receives on average ten requests every hour. At any given time, one consultant is responsible for handling customer requests. This takes on average five minutes with a standard deviation of four minutes. The coefficient of variation of the time between two consecutive customer requests is 1. a) What is the utilization of the consultant on duty? b) Compute the average time a customer has to wait to receive a response from a consultant? (i.e., time between sending e-mail and receiving response). c) How many customers on average are waiting for a response at any given time? d) When idle (i.e., not responding to emails), the active consultant is encouraged to do research on a certain topic.
