Kelvin Sports Ltd. was founded in 1931 by Richie Brogan and has established itself as a household name in the Irish retail sports sector. The company rst opened a store in Kilkenny and has expanded to have thirty eight stores nationwide employing 540 people. Richie retired in 2011 and his sons Ger and Ben took over the running of the company. Since then Sarah Brogan ({Ben's daughter) has become involved in the business. Sarah graduated from DKIT in 2015 with a rst-class honours degree in Sports Exercise and Enterprise. Kelvin Sports Ltd has a stated aim of catering for both the casual sporting community and top sports athletes. The business has been built on a high level of customer service, quality sports goods, excellent knowledge of the multiple sports and above all to cater for sports enthusiasts rather than simply supplying sports fashion apparel. The company stocks the highest quality mainstream sports goods. such as soccer, keep-t, (3AA, rugby, athletics golf, clothing and footwear, It is this comprehensive product range and focus on sport participants' requirements that has made Kelvin Sports Ltd one of Ireland's leading sports retailers. Kelvin Sports has had a long and associations local clubs in the areas where it has retail outlets and has been the sponsor of the Leitrim senior men's GAA team and also sponsors the Limerick senior Ladies (1AA team while supporting and promoting sport at a grass root level. Since Sarah joined the company she has driven Kelvin's online presence. With it large network of stores and wide geographical Wmmpany has been performing well in the bricks and mortar stores, Competition in the online sector has been erce. One major competitor which is UK based has been making large inroads into the Irish market selling a wide array of sports and fashion brands. Sarah has also learned that another potential competitor is now entering the Irish market. This competitor is a French multinational sports retailer. The France company is currently building a large store and logistics centre on the outskirts of Dublin. This new competitor concentrates on selling its own brand products rather than the internationally recognised big sports brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. Now that the company's online presence has been well established and is operating well Ger and Ben Brogan have asked Sarah to direct her attention to reviewing how well the company is performing. Traditionally the management reports consisted largely of nancial data relating the performance of the stores. Store managers' performance related pay was based on the achievement of quarterly and annual sales targets set by the company. Sarah has told both Ben and Ger that she believes a much wider approach to both strategy and performance s required. She has suggested that a Balanced Scorecard approach should be adopted. You are required to Write a brieng note to Ben 8r. Ger on what the Balance scorecard approach is, and what it might mean for performance evaluation at Kelvin Sports Ltd. Design a Balanced Scorecard for Kelvin Sports Ltd which includes two of each Objectives, W, Targets and Initiatives.
