Over the last five years or so, I have encountered people that were in a leadership position, and most that should not be allowed to lead people. To me, leadership is one the first things I look for in a manager. About six years ago when I first in warehousing, I met this guy named Tommy Carter. Tommy was the receiving manager as well as a Pastor of a local church. Tommy used every interaction he had with you to learn more about you. Other managers of the same company used the "I'm the manager, you are the employee" method, and they constantly threw that concept in your face. With Tommy, when he would notice when your mind was not fully at work, or if your presence had some negativity attached to it. Tommy not only wanted to excel as an employee, but as a person as well. Of course, the upper manage didn't like his approach because it was not assertive enough. Tommy treated us like people and did not make us feel like a body with warm breath.
