The audio home recording act (AHRA) codified the right of users to record content that they own at home. Many users continue to buy CDs which they then "rip" or convert to MP3 format so that they can listen to the music on their various digital devices. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently claimed in court that ripping ones own CDs to mp3 format for ones own personal use constitutes infringement.
