Persuasion Assignment This assignment is intended to give you experience in leading others by informal authority, and more specifically, to put into practice the influence principles discussed in class. You are asked to successfully persuade people to engage in some kind of activity that they would otherwise not do were it not for your leadership. You should have four different persuasion experiences (i.e., if you speak to an audience of more than one person, that only counts as one experience). You should use some of the tactics described in the Harnessing the Science of Persuasion reading. You can use different tactics for each of the people or the same tactic on all four. The people you are leading cannot know that the activity is for an assignment in this class (at least until after the activity is over). The activity that you choose to persuade others to engage in is completely up to your discretion, as long as the activity is legally, ethically, and morally appropriate. Choosing an activity will require some creativity on your part, and it is quite possible that you will fail in the process of influencing and motivating others to do the activity. However, just keep working on it until you have successfully led others to do some kind of activity. Following the successful completion of the activity, you will write a reflection paper summarizing 1) the activity that you tried to persuade others to engage in, 2) the types of persuasion principles you put into practice in order to persuade others to do the activity, and 3) a reflection on lessons learned from the activity. This assignment is worth 50 points and is due at the beginning of class on April 19.
