  3. Based on those advertisements, identify the target audience for that show, magazine, channel, etc.:
  • Develop a demographic profile of the target group (market segment). Use the list of demographic variables given on page429 (Forms ofConsumer Market Segmentation) of the textbook. This can be done in outline form. Forexample, you can present the variables in a vertical list, as shown below. Make sure youinclude all the demographic variables listed on page429(Forms ofConsumer MarketSegmentation). You donot need to include the Geographic, Benefit, or Volumesegments, and youwill include thePsychographicbases in the next part. For some ofthe demographic variables such as age and income, you will be listing a range, such as:

  • Education
  • Gender
  • Develop apsychographicprofile of the target audience.Psychographiccharacteristics include a person's lifestyle,personality, interests, values,and attitudes.Think of adjectives that might describe the people that read the magazineyou chose. For example, you might come up with adventurous, fashion-forward,traditional, serious, security-conscious, conservative, liberal, career-driven, or family-oriented to describe the people you believe watch the show, for example, after looking at all the ads.These are examples only. I do not want to see this exact list. You may need to use someof them, but you should come up with other adjectives and descriptions. You are to comeup with at leastfive words that describe the readers and give the reasonswhy youthink these words apply.For example, if you think the viewers are adventurous, tell mewhy you think that. One reason might be that the people in the advertisements are showndoing adventurous activities like mountain-climbing.
