Pilgrim Bank is approached by an organization similar to the AARP. (An individual is eligible for membership in AARP if the person's age exceeds 50 years). Let us call this organization AARP-Lite. AARP-Lite offers to sell a database marketing list of its members to Pilgrim Bank. Retired persons, Pilgrim is told, are often wealthy and have lots of disposable income. Therefore they should represent very profitable bank customers. Before buying the list, Pilgrim decides to conduct an internal analysis to determine if indeed, older persons are more profitable (on average). After contacting the CIO, Pilgrim learns that their database records do not exactly allow a determination of whether a person is over 50 or not.
