need help with completing assignment below Overview: In week 3 you worked with a data set related to restaurants (173 observations with dummy and categorical dummy variables). Specifically, you were provided with data on restaurants randomly drawn from Virginia localities, and that information revealed average weekly sales, as well as information related to type of food, if the location has road frontage, etc. You will continue to work with that data set and will apply the concepts of hypothesis testing to see what can be learned from this inferential statistics approach. This project has a bit more structure than Data Analysis 1, but you should still work to craft a report that is visually appealing, well organized, with well explained analysis. The design and organization is up to you. Data/Coding Expectations: So that it is easy to follow your work, you were asked to make revisions to your data, if necessary. For example, if you coded in the negative (no website=1) we have asked you to code in the positive (website=1). You were asked to ensure good variable names (and you can use what was given to you). You will need variable names in the top row as you conduct hypothesis tests. A document was posted in Module 4 (near bottom of assignments) and it goes through the expectations. A sample is provided so you can check your work. It is posted again in Module 5. Be certain all is ok with your data set before you move on to this assignment. Audience: Your audience is your client, the investment group. But, the group has hired one of Dr. Marks' students and she is reasonably well-versed in statistics, so you are speaking to her for the most part. As such, you need to be clear about what tests you are running (what hypotheses), what level of confidence, etc. but you can assume that she can follow the statistics. However, key takeaways should still be noted so that the report is accessible to others who are not statisticians. Your Task: Your client is interested in knowing ifthere is a significant difference in AVERAGE WEEKLY SALES ($) for: Restaurants that are SWAM vs. are NOT SWAM (women or minority owned businesses). Restaurants that are franchises vs. are not franchises. Restaurants that have a website vs. do not have a website. Restaurants that have road frontage vs. do not have road frontage. Restaurants that are in localities with a special meals tax vs. those without a meal tax. Restaurants serving American food vs. any non- American food types (Asian, Italian, Mexican, Other combined as one type). This means that you must create the subgroups needed in Excel. A quick way to do this is to sort by the dummy variables and then copy and paste into a clean page on your spreadsheet. Name the pages appropriately. (For example, if I have test scores for students, I can sort by a dummy variable called MALE. That means all the males would be together and all the females. I can copy and paste to a new page) You Must: Perform the desired hypothesis test (assuming equal variance and not "pairing" the observations) in Excel. Create tables of Excel results in the paper. (You can decide how to organize the tables.) Write out your hypothesis for each test...they must appear in the paper. Keep in mind you need to think about one-tailed vs. two-tailed and be clear about your assumption. Your hypotheses must reflect these assumptions. You need to discuss what level of confidence you are working with. Discuss results and what can be learned from them. Be precise in your language. NOTE: Some numbers may be expressed in scientific notation. See below. Scientific Notation: Excel might give some results in scientific notation. So, you need to understand how to read the results. (If you are a line or 2 over that is fine.) Submit your report single spaced. Use TIMES ROMAN 12 point font. Use 1" margins Have your name in the HEADER of your paper, not taking up space. Use an organizational structure that makes your paper readable. These might include headings, bold, underlines, blank spaces (use sparingly to not eat up space). You should use good technical writing techniques (see previous modules), especially in reference to use of tables, discussing takeaways, etc. Also: You must have an intro and conclusion. Use headings to organize content (but don't waste lots of space). Tables for Excel results should appear in the paper. Tables might need to be next to each other or merged into a single table with multiple columns to avoid having a ton of white space. You MUST demonstrate your understanding of hypothesis testing. Explain what the numbers tell you. Speak to the audience-both the informed and the one that does not know a lot of statistics. Tone should be relatively formal, given you are serving as a consultant, but conversational (not too formal or too casual). Write in third person and not in first/second (I, we, us).
