A countercurrent scrubber can help accomplish this. The scrubber operates at atmospheric pressure and deg C and uses pure liquid water to selectively absorb SO from stack gas. The liquid and vapor streams leaving the scrubber are in equilibrium. The liquid stream leaving contains only water and SO The gas stream leaving contains inert gas, SO and water vapor. The process flow diagram is given at right. The volumetric flow rate of the stack gas to be processed is Lmin and contains mol SO Since SO is the only component in the stack gas that absorbs in the water, you can consider the other components of the stack gas as inert. At the operating conditions the Henrys Law constant for SO is x mmHgmole fraction. For all parts of the problem, assume that the vapor phases are an ideal gas and the liquid phases are ideal solutions.
