There is a cylinder blocking the central path of the beam. If you were given a 3cm by 3cm by 10cm rectangular prism made out of clear diamond and a mirror, how would you place the prism and the mirror to make the laser hit the center target? Draw where you would place the optical tools to make the laser hit the target.' How can the equations help you figure out how to setup your prism? e. What do you know about mirrors that can help you determine where you will place it in the diagram? f. How many times will you need to apply Snell's Law when the condition for its use is that a wave is traveling from one medium to another? Explain your claim. 2. Entering the Prism (This should be completed in pencil.) a. Draw a 3cm by 10cm rectangle on the paper to represent where the prism will be placed. Draw the normal to the surface of the prism at the point where the laser will enter it. C. Draw the path that the laser will take on its way to the prism. d. Measure and label the angle that the light beam will make with the normal as it enters the diamond. e. Measure and label the angle of refraction in the prism and show the snell's law solution which supports your angle. 3. Exiting the Prism (This should be completed in pencil.) a. Draw the path of the laser within the prism. b. Draw the normal where the laser will exit the prism. c. Measure and label the angle that the light beam will form with the interior normal at exit. d. Measure and label the angle relative to the normal that the light will have after leaving the prism. e. Optional: If your selected prism tilt is not enough to have the light pass by the cylinder, you may add an additional mirror surface and use the rules of reflection with two mirrors to accomplish the task. 4. Placement of the Mirror (This should be completed in pencil.) a. Indicate where you will place the mirror on the sheet. b. Draw the normal of the mirror where the light will strike it. c. Indicate both the incident ray's and the reflected ray's angle to the normal of the mirror. 5. Conclusion questions a. Explain what parallel medium boundaries do to the path of the wave after it travels through both boundaries. b.
