Q3. An aqueous mixture of solids is to be concentrated with a trippel effect evaporator system. The system is used in forward-feed mode. The feed enters the first effect at a flow rate of 18000kg/h at 60C, with 12wt% solids content and leaves the third effect with 30 wt\% solids content. To heat the first effect steam is sent at 3 bar absolute. The evaporation space above the third effect has a pressure of 0.6 bar absolute. The overall heat transfer coefficents can be assumed as 2220,2000 and 1500J/sm2K in the first, second and third effects, respectively. Assumming equal heat transfer in each effect: a) Draw the tripple effect evaporator system in forward-feed mode and label the given quantities. Calculate: b) the flow rate of the product and total amount of vapor evaporated. c) the temperature of each effect. d) the flow rates of steam, and liquid products in each effect and also their solid contents. e) vapor produced in each effect. f) the heat transfer area in each effect needed to accomplish the desired exit concentration. g) the steam economy based upon the results of the first estimate. h) How can you explain the discrepencies between the surface areas calculated, especially the first effect and the mean surface area of the evaporators. How will you estimate the new trial? Write only the procedure to find the area in order to reduce the deviation, step by step. Table 1. Properties of Saturated Steam Q3.
