At the beginning of this lesson, I was totally unfamiliar with the termrhetorical situation. After reading the materials for this week I feel more prepared to explain it to a friend. To simplify it, I would define rhetorical situation as communicate in a way that would make another person change their thinking.

Why do I write? I communicate better thru writing. I write to my family, my friends, and coworkers. When I write to my family and friends, I use a casual tone and words that everyone understands. When I am at work, I use professional language. I am more direct and concise when it comes to communicate with my superiors.

My attitude towards writing is a difficult one. I think in Spanish and translate to English. It almost feels like I am writing everything twice. My confidence level is good, but it can be better.

I use writing as a stress reliever. The paper takes everything that you put on it and you can literally pour your soul out without being afraid of judgment. Me and my partner have a notebook that we use when we have disagreements. We write down what made us upset, and when we calm down, we discuss it. It makes a huge difference to discuss things when the emotions are not high.

For me success in this course will be to pass with a good grade. I know that is going to take a lot of effort on my part, but I know that if I focus, I can do it. I need to change my thought process to be able to have success in this course. I need to see writing as an ally and not an enemy.
