Please share your thoughts on Resource Smoothing vs Resource Levelling.

You have been hired as a consultant for a large telecom company that is rolling out a national management training program supporting a strategic learning objective. The senior management team believes that the leadership, communication, operational management and project management skills of the middle managers need improvement. Your client has stated that the training program is to be completed by June 30, 2023; however, you have worked with this client before, and you know that sometimes they let deadlines slip.

You began working on this project in late October 2022 and have completed the following steps:

• Prepared a scope statement and WBS
• Created an activity list and sequenced the tasks
• Determined the critical path
• Assigned resources to all the tasks

You notice that many of the resources are over allocated, and you are uncertain if you can reduce their workloads without delaying the project finish date. Here are some questions that are intended to help you discuss this situation. You have to answer at least four of the five questions.

1. What are some of the things you could do to try to resolve the over allocation problem?

4. If you levelled the project and the project end date was delayed until December 31, 2023, what should you do?
5. If you levelled the project and the end date was delayed until July 15, 2023, what could you do?
