Idea: We plan to research the relationship between race and COVlD-19 infections (hospitalization rates). Since we are interested in political science and social justice. we decided to pursue this idea as it is both contemporary and relevant. We believe that there denitely exists a relationship between our variables. Variables: Our two variables are: race (percentage of people of color in the U.S. popuiation) and COVlD-19 hospitalization rates. The predictor variable would be race and the response variable would be COVID-19 hospitalization rates. What We Expect: We expect to nd that people of color. especially Black and Indigenous people. are more likely to be hospitalized for COVlD-19 in the US. This is because members of historically oppressed groups face systemic barriers to healthcare, as well as environmental issues, such as pollution due to the placement of waste incinerators in Black communities, that put people of color at a higher risk for having pre-existing conditions that worsen COVID-19 complications. Gathering Data: We plan to gather data from the Center for Disease Control. the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. and the COVID tracking project, all of which provide continuously updated and reliable information.
