Political campaigns involve large sums of money that come from a variety of sources -- the candidates, donors, interest groups, political parties. Some scholars have called for a switch to publicly-funded elections, in which the only money that candidates could use to campaign would be a pre-determined dollar amount (the same for each candidate in that race) paid for by taxpayer revenue.
