Final Assignment

The final assignment aligns with course objectives that focus on SCADA system building blocks and their

function, including SCADA communications systems, RTUs, and IEDs. SCADA protocols, communication

systems media, and EMS and DMS are covered as well.

An unlabeled SCADA system drawing with power system connections.

A list of labels for components, media types, and protocols

Instructions

Label the COMPONENTS.

Some of the communication links are already on the drawing, add labels to them to indicate

their media types and protocols.

Draw the remaining communication links and label them to indicate their media types and

protocols.

There are four substations. They are labeled Sub$1-$ Hybrid, Sub$2-$ Legacy, Sub$3-$ New, and

Sub$4-$ New. Refer to Sections $2\mathrm{.}10$ & $2\mathrm{.}11$ of the textbook and the Unit $2,$ Module $3$ Lecture $-$

Three Types of Systems $-$ and label the components in Sub$1,$ Sub$2,$ Sub$3,$ and Sub$4$ as required

to create the system type indicated for each.

On the second sheet of the assignment, explain the reason$($s$)$ for each of the media types

chosen.

Labels are NOT required for the links to the Distribution System and Transmission System at the

top of the drawing.

Protocol labels are NOT required for the links from the Power System at the bottom of the

page.

Use each COMPONENT label only once. It may be helpful to print the list and the drawing and cross of

the labels from the COMPONENT list as they are used. The list contains one label for each COMPONENT.

The labels from the Media Types and Protocols list can be used more than once. Each media type and

protocol are included in the list only once, use them as many times as necessary. More media and

protocol labels are provided than are required. Some of them may not be appropriate for the system

and components in the drawing.
