PR 8.1 (LO 1) Data Financial Accounting Interpret Descriptive Analytics Management at U.S. Outdoor Adventures is evaluating their shipping policy to customers. Currently, the company offers free shipping, but they are considering charging customers for shipping. Management would like to better understand how shipping costs are changing and if there is a relationship between the type of shipping method and order priority. Products are shipped either first class, same day, second class, or standard class. The method of shipping is decided by the customer but is usually related to the order priority. The priority categories are critical, low, high or medium. The data analysis team provided the following descriptive analyses, which indicate that total shipping costs increased from 2022 to 2025. They also prepared a frequency distribution of the number of shipments by priority and shipping mode for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 combined. Two tables sit side-by-side. The table on the left titled, Shipping Cost Per Year, has two columns, and the column headers are: Year, and Total Shipping Cost. The data are presented as follows: Year, 2022; Total Shipping Cost, $49,769.30; Year, 2023; Total Shipping Cost, $50,198.57; Year, 2024; Total Shipping Cost, $60,925.19; Year, 2025; Total Shipping Cost, $77,280.73; Year, Grand Total; Total Shipping Cost, $238,173.79. The table on the right titled, Number of Shipments by Shipping Mode, has two columns, and the column headers are: Priority and Shipping Mode, and Number of Shipments. The data are presented in four divisions. The first division is titled, Critical, with an amount of 783 listed in the numeric column. Three labels appear slightly indented under, Critical, and the data are presented in the numeric column as follows: First Class, 340; Same Day, 154; Second Class, 289. The second division is titled, High, with an amount of 3,069 listed in the numeric column. Four labels appear slightly indented under, High, and the data are presented in the numeric column as follows: First Class, 703; Same Day, 273; Second Class, 744; Standard Class, 1,349. The third division is titled, Low, with an amount of 432 listed in the numeric column. A label appears slightly indented under, Low, and the data is presented in the numeric column as follows: Standard Class, 432. The fourth division is titled, Medium, with an amount of 5,710 listed in the numeric column. Four labels appear slightly indented under, Medium, and the data are presented in the numeric column as follows: First Class, 495; Same Day, 116; Second Class, 912; Standard Class, 4,187. The last line presents the label, Grand Total, in the first column, with an amount of 9,994 listed in the numeric column. Identify the following: Who are the stakeholders ? What was the purpose for analysis? Are there alternative explanations or analyses? Are there any risks that should be considered? What knowledge did the preparer need and what knowledge does the interpreter need to understand the analysis? How can you use your prior experience or apply this experience to future analyses through self-reflection? Are the data used in the analysis reasonable given the question/objective of the analysis? Is the analysis method reasonable given the question/objective of the analysis? Are the results of the analysis reasonable given what is known about the subject being analyzed? Are the implications of the analysis reasonable given what you know about the subject being analyzed? Does the analysis address the needs/concerns of the stakeholders? Prepare an additional descriptive analysis that will help U.S. Outdoor Adventures understand the costs associated with each mode of shipping. Interpret your analysis
