Assessment Students watch a chapter of the Netflix documentary Street Food Latinoamerica or they have to search for a similar documentary video in You Tube. Students prepare an oral presentation with pictures of their favorite street food comparing it with other ones using the taste and texture adjectives. Students will show oral presentations next class. The speaking will be graded by using a rubric focusing on pronunciation. Less guided Practice Put the students into groups and ask them to think of two street meals they would like to compare. Give them 10 minutes to write 10 different comparative statements using the adjectives previously taught. Independent Practice Have the students think of two street meals they want to compare. Have them write their comparative sentences individually. Guided Practice In order to teach the correct pronunciation, the teacher will spell to students a list of taste and texture adjectives taken from the video of street food. For this activity the students will be divided into pairs and teacher spells out the first word, for example S-P-I-C-Y. Ask the teams to confer on the correct pronunciation and to pick a spokesperson. Then ask each team's spokesperson to pronounce the word. Mark on a piece of paper if it's right or not. After each team has given its guess, allot points on the board to the teams that pronounced the word well. Continue with the next word but rotating the starting team. Model Hand out a model article of comparing street food and ask students to find out the comparative forms. Ask which type of comparative rule the adjective has. Ask students to find out if there are adjectives that don't follow the rules explained before. Context: College students (18 - 19 years old) Lesson Objectives Students will be able to pronounce comparative adjectives. Students will demonstrate their understanding of comparative form by showing an oral presentation of their favorite street food. Teacher elicits to students if they know some adjectives, they can use for describing food. Students analyze a list of adjectives in the comparative form. Teacher gives a handout to each student and explain that they will infer the grammar rules of the comparative form by looking at the examples.Students work in pairs in order to create rules based on their observations & test their rules against additional examples. Students modify and add to rules as necessary & apply rules to their own writing and speaking examples. Warm-up and Objective Discussion By applying the imagery strategy, show students slides of street food and ask if they have tasted them and what they know about these foods. Ask students if they know what country each of these dishes are from. Explain that we apply comparatives all the time specially when we compare two things connected with food. Explain that today the students will learn about how to compare food, and more specifically street food. Explain they will show an oral presentation with pictures describing and comparing their favorite street food that they will turn in next class.
