Scenario 3:

Ariana Chica became an RCIC in 2020. Since then she has had an unsteady stream of clients even though the quality of her work is excellent and her clients are very happy. Several years into the business, she still has to work 3 - 4 shifts per week as a restaurant server to make ends meet.

Ariana wants to focus solely on immigration, which is the field she worked so hard to be in. Last night, Ariana received an email from a prospective new client who was very keen on retaining representation. Even better, the client needs help in an area Ariana is extremely competent in.

Ariana called the client first thing in the morning. On the phone, the client was abrasive, rude, and demanding and she had not even retained yet! She cut Ariana off every time she tried to speak and argued with her advice. The client also liked to hear herself talk and thought that she was very intelligent about Canadian immigration. The longer the call went on, the more dismayed Ariana became.

Finally, the client asked Ariana how much she would charge to represent her for the matter. Ariana, thinking that she could get out of the situation gracefully, quoted $20,000 - five times her normal price and five months of her current total salary. To her shock, the client agreed and told her to send the contract before hanging up on Ariana.

Has Ariana played the situation correctly? What should she do now?
