Problem 2 Introduction to psychrometry The y-axis of a psychrometric chart has units of kg water/kg dry air. This is a composition unit which is very convenient for this work, but it also relates to mol fraction. a) Create a function that relates Moisture Content (M) [=] kg water/kg dry air to mole fraction water, y,y=f(M) b) Use your function to determine the water mol fraction of water in saturated air at 25C (use the psychrometric chart to determine M ). c) Find a reliable source for water vapour pressure at 25C. (One is the "Online Steam Calculator" from TLV) Compare your results from this source (vapour pressure converted to mol fraction at 1 atmosphere), to confirm the equation you developed in ' a ', and calculated in ' b '. d) If air at 25C (is this wet bulb or dry bulb?) is at 50% relative humidity, use the psychrometric chart to determine: a. water content (both absolute humidity and mol fraction), b. the wet bulb temperature, c. enthalpy of the stream indicating the reference conditions, and d. the specific volume (use the units on the chart). e) On a construction site, a temporary propane heater is set up. Ambient air at -10C, 60\% humidity, is heated to 30 deg C. This is accomplished in heat exchanger, transferring heat from the flue gas to the air. If the heater is 80% efficient, and has a duty of 20,000 BTU/h, what is the air flow rate OUT of the heater, in kg/h and actual m3/hr ? What is the absolute and relative humidity of the outlet air
