Problem 3 (35 pts): Jet impingement is used to break open the MRC-5 diploid human lung cells used to manufacture the Chickpox (varicella virus) vaccine. Due to the gentle nature of the collision (no cavitation), the temperature increase is less than 0.1C. Two fluid streams enter the device at 25 m/s, each with a gauge pressure of 10 psi. The exit stream has a diameter equal to the each inlet stream (all 1.0 cm). The exit pressure is 5 psi gauge. The directions and velocities are shown in the figure (US Patent 5721120). Fluid density is 1030 kg/m Assume that the friction in this device can be represented by two elbows and one constriction. For the elbows, use the upstream values and for the constriction use downstream values. State any assumptions. Determine the amount of heating needed to maintain this nearly constant temperature for this device.. V3 P = 5 psi TT 1 1 -130 110 100 H-120 V = 25 m/s P2 = 10 psi V2 = 25 m/s P2 = 10 psi 1112 -101
