Question
Problem Statement: A distillation tower, operating at a pressure of 1.2atm, is fed a saturated liquid of composition: 33% n-hexane, 37% n-heptane and 30% n-octane.
Problem Statement: A distillation tower, operating at a pressure of 1.2atm, is fed a saturated liquid of composition: 33% n-hexane, 37% n-heptane and 30% n-octane. The distillate product is to possess only 0.01 mole fraction of n-heptane and the bottoms product is to have 0.01 mole fraction of n-hexane. The tower is fitted with a partial condenser and so the distillate product is drawn off as a vapour while all of the condensed liquid is returned to the tower as reflux. The partial condenser may be assumed to operate at equilibrium and the reflux ratio is 1.5Rmin. The bottoms product exits the reboiler as a saturated liquid. You may assume negligible pressure drop throughout the tower.
