Prof. Robert Emerson and friends tell the story of the Pied Piper. Just as matters of heart are not generally matters for contract law, so, when there is a breach of contract, it is not viewed as a moral concern. Not bad, Not wrong: Businesses make choices. Sometimes they choose to breach. But they must then "Pay the Piper."

• If you were the Mayor of the town what would you do in this case when you had a need to get rid of the rats but did not have the money on hand to afford what the piper wanted to be paid?
• Does it matter that the Piper was able to remove all the rats relatively easily in comparison to the amount of compensation he wanted?
• In response to not being paid should the piper have led the children away? If not what should have been his response?
