Regarding 3 aspects relating to sustainability, the RMA seeks to "promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources." (Section 5(2), RMA). With District and Unitary Plans drawing so much from the RMA, there are examples in these plans where you can trace back the underlying purpose of the RMA.

As a specific example, while the RMA does not apply to the vehicles, if it did then one thing that could be required is a filter for pollution that comes out of the exhaust system. So, when you look through the Unitary Plan under the relevant zoning you can find things that protect the environment.
