Prototyping Techniques for a Fitness tracker (smart watch) wearable device:

Question 1:

Carry out research to identify five different rapid prototyping techniques. Synthesise the information (perhaps in a table) with headings such as:

1. Rapid prototyping technique,
2. Typical applications and materials used,
3. Description (including how it works),
4. Speed of the printing technique,
5. Accuracy and surface finish,
6. Cost and availability (approximate) and;
7. References and sources of Information.

Question 2:

Using the concept screening technique produce a list of selection criteria that is suitable for the selection of the best prototyping technique for the purposes for a Fitness tracker (smart watch) wearable device. (e.g. cost of technique, accuracy of the technique, etc.). Choose a minimum of 5 different selection criteria

Question 3:

For each of the five rapid prototyping techniques you described in the table produced in Question 1, use the criteria that you identified in Question 3 to rate each prototyping method against your chosen baseline rapid prototyping technique (i.e. select one of the five techniques as a baseline, and compare the other four against it). To do this, create a Concept Screening table showing how each of the four remaining techniques rank against the baseline technique, and reduce the five initial prototyping techniques down to the three best for a Fitness tracker (smart watch) wearable device.

Question 4:

Next, prepare a Concept Scoring table (using weightings) to narrow down your three rapid prototyping techniques to one. Justify your selection of weighting scores.

Question 5:

Write a conclusion on the decision method you developed in the above questions and highlight any advantages and disadvantages it may have. Based on what you have learned from the activities in the above questions, state any improvements you would recommend for this decision-making process before you would apply this technique on another occasion.
