The product I selected is the Nikon z50 Mirrorless camera. This camera is a device that I purchased less than 2 years ago when I began my journey as an up-and-coming photographer. The Nikon z50 mirrorless camera is eye catching to any buyer with the popular and exciting specifications. However, why isnt the Nikon z50 mirrorless camera performing as expected for myself and others?

The issues/problems with the Nikon z50:

Hypothesis 1: The battery life on the z50 does not last a full day of shooting.

Hypothesis 2: Lens compatibility is limited to two lenses- The DX 16-50 and DX 50-250mm.

Hypothesis 3: Image quality in low lighting settings is not sharp when compared to its competition.

RESEARCH PLAN OUTLINE:

Background: Nikon z50 mirrorless camera is a digital camera part of Nikons Z series. Mirrorless cameras are designed to capture images without the use of a mirror in the cameras body. With the Nikon z50s small camera design there is a few of disadvantages you may encounter. Disadvantages like shorter battery life, fewer options for camera lenses, and limitations in low light environments.

Problem: The Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera is not performing as expected for myself and others.

Research Problem: To collect internal and external data in order to eliminate the issue of the Nikon z50 performance levels not meeting the expectations of its users

Hypothesis:

Hypothesis 1: The battery life on the Nikon z50 does not last a full day of shooting photographs.

Hypothesis 2: Lens compatibility is limited to two lenses- The DX 16-50 and DX 50-250mm.

Hypothesis 3: Image quality in low lighting settings is not sharp when compared to its competition.

In order to understand the issues listed above, a 2-phase secondary research plan is suggested. Phase 1 will explore the cameras battery life and image quality. Phase 2 will conduct secondary research on the lens compatibility.

1: Secondary Market Research on the cameras battery life and image quality.

SMART Objective: To understand the causes of low battery life and image quality.

Specific : (What) Conduct internal and external secondary research on Nikon z50s battery life and image quality. (Why) To understand what is causing the cameras battery life and image quality to not meet the expectations of (Who) its consumers, professionals and non-professionals, (When) since the October 2019 release date.

Measurable: Research will be collected and measured against Nikons intended performance outcome.

Achievable: To goal is to meet the needs of consumers by resolving the battery life and image quality issue.

Relevant: This will determine if the performance of the Nikon z50 is aligned with the consumers expectations.

Timebound: Research will be completed by the end of Q4 2022.

Phase 2: Secondary Market Research on the Nikon z50 lens compatibility

SMART Objective: To understand why the Nikon z50 only has two compatible lenses.

Specific: (what) Conduct internal and external secondary research on the Nikon z50 mirrorless camera lens compatibility (Why) to compare other Nikon cameras compatibility with numerous camera lenses. (When) also to understand the Nikon z50 limitations on using different lens options if a (who) consumer may have a particular style of lens they would prefer to use.

Measurable: Research to be collected and results will be compared to other Nikon cameras compatibility with lenses.

Achievable: To identify alternative resources for Nikon z50s consumers to utilize more than the two compatible camera lenses.

Research will be completed by the end of Q4 2022.

Week 3:

The secondary approach was to understand why Nikon z50 was not meeting the expectations for myself and other users. The Secondary research phases were designed to resolve the performance issues. As a result, it was discovered that the a full battery will only last for 2/3 hours until the battery charge is exhausted. Also, Nikon sells a Nikon Mount adaptor which allows you to use all Nikon lenses vs the two that were designed for the Nikon z50. Lastly, as any other camera image quality is based on specific camera settings and lighting.

Overall, the secondary research provided insight on alternatives to resolve the camera performance issues.

Round 2 would test the quality of the camera from a professional photographers and nonprofessionals perspective to determine if its met the expectations of its consumers.

Phase 3: Conduct Primary Qualitative Research.

Overall Objective of this phase: To Primary research to discover customers perceptions of the Nikon z50 mirrorless cameras battery life, image quality, lens compatibility.

SMART objective:

Specific: (what) To Conduct primary research in-person (where) by using a focus group of professional and non-professional consumers (who) to provide direct insight and reviews regarding the cameras battery life, image quality, and lens compatibility (why) while using the product (When).

Measurable: As an owner of the Nikon z50, performing a test of the battery life and image quality and compare to the secondary research findings.

Achievable: The goal is to understand the initial performance expectations of Nikon z50s consumers compared to the performance they have experienced.

Overall Objective of this phase: To test the performance levels of the camera and to determine if its met the expectations of its consumers.

Measurable: Review performance reviews from external factors.

Achievable: This information is public and can be accessed via internet search.

Relevant: Will determine if the Nikon z50 technology meets the needs of a professional photographer and a non-professional.

Timebound: Completed by the end of 2022.

Conducting Qualitative and Quantitative research plan will provide insight on the durability and quality of the Nikon z50. Directly testing the hypotheses and analyzing reviews will provide key components of what the product offers to ultimately determine if this camera is a promising product to use as a professional photographer and a nonprofessional.
