Selecting a team for this project was challenging. I first looked at everyone's qualifications, and started to notice that certain individuals do not work well together. It is important for the team to work as one, and not waste time with drama. The team needs to be able to focus on the client, and their role in the contract. The Program Management Institute (2017) describes objectives of developing a team that include: improve trust and agreement among the team, create a dynamic, cohesive, collaborative team culture, which leads to better productivity, increased morale, and teamwork with less conflict. I decide on those who were most qualified with experience, demeanor, and strengths that help the team be more successful. As the program manager, I wanted to make sure I had the right people in place to run things when I am not there. It was a plus if they were co-located.
Engineer: Lead- Bob Bennancourt, Secondary- Paul Paulson (21.8%)
I selected Bob Bennancourt as the lead over Carl Clear, because his is a great engineer and gets along with the rest of the team selected. Since he has worked with NASA before working with our company for five years, he will have a lot of valuable experience to contribute. Another plus is that he is based out of Houston. Bob is also a good mentor to new engineers, and that is why his secondary is Paul Paulson who is also in Houston. Paul also has diverse experience from other competitors, is creative and works well with teams. Since he has not been tested as a leader, pairing him with Bob will help prepare him to lead someday.
Contract Manager: Lead- Ron Neiber, Secondary- Todd Morison (23.21%)
I chose Ron Neiber as the lead, because of his good reputation with everyone, eight years of contract management experience, and he is local in Houston. His background in finance is also a plus bringing another perspective to the team. As the secondary I chose Todd Morison because of his successes in the past 15 years working as a contract manager. He can also assist with program manager tasks since I may be tasked with other requirements by the company. Todd takes his job serious and does not allow people to slack off. Since he is out of Atlanta, and the rest of my team in in Houston, I prefer to have the face-to-face with the team.
Financial Manager: Lead- Larry Tandle, Secondary- Rod Smith (30.43%)
Larry Tandle is the lead financial manager, because he is known throughout the company as a financial wizard, along with a great reputation. Although he is out of San Diego, his role will not likely require him to be in person. Most of his work will be on the computer, so he can connect with us virtually. Besides, it is likely that he will move to Houston soon. It is important to have the best finance lead due to the financial intricacies in contracts. Rod Smith is the secondary because he is driven, result-oriented manager that has had success with multiple programs over the past 12 years.A plus is that he is based out of Houston.
Creative Design: Lead- Linda Verde, Secondary- Tammy Mason (14.71%)
I chose Linda Verde as lead due to her ten years of experience, determination, and many believe she is going to bring great designs. Although she is a new employee, she is eager to prove herself with this program. She is local in Houston and is liked by most. Tammy Mason is the secondary, since she has proven herself time and time again with awards and positive reviews. She will be a great person to fill in if Linda is not available.
Client Support: Lead-Sam Roberson, Secondary- Jason Anders
I chose Sam Roberson as lead sue to his ability to smooth things over with the customer. He has 12 years of experience, seven of which with the company. He has worked with several large projects and has done a good job. I chose Jason Anders as the secondary, due to his temper. He is good at working with clients, but does not get along with everyone internally.
