Purposiveness in qualitative research is why the researcher used a qualitative measure (Richards, 2016). Congruence relates to how the research method fits the chosen perspective to explore the research topic (Richards, 2016).

The armchair walkthrough of the proposed research would identify the research purpose and question (Richards, 2016). This research is to understand an offender's experience in the process of receiving Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and how it is changing their thoughts and how they feel to prevent them from reoffending. The setting of the study would be while the participants are incarcerated, before their release. For this topic, the grounded theory method would be the most appropriate, as indicated in the readings, to answer the questions regarding changing experiences over time and to better understand the stages of change (Richards, 2016). The qualitative method is the best choice as it allows for the first-hand account of those experiencing changes in thoughts, beliefs, values and thinking (Richards, 2016).
