Q4. Toyz Co. uses the weighted-average process costing method to account for costs of production, It manufactures plastic toys in two departments: Moulding and Finishing. At the Molding Department, materials comprising rubber, silicon and other chemicals are poured into moulds and cured for 12 hours. After curing is completed, the moulded toy models are transferred to the Finishing Department. At the Finishing Department, conversion costs are added evenly while materials to paint the toy models are added at the 60% stage. The following information relates to the Finishing Department for October: On 1 October, there was no finished toys inventory. However, there were 100,000 units of toy models that had reached the 65% production stage. Their costs comprised: Transferred-in costs $70,000 Painting materials $40,000 Conversion costs $60,000 During October, 500,000 toy models were transferred in from the Moulding Department at a cost of $470,000. At the Finishing Department, $240,000 painting materials and $300,000 conversion costs were added. At the end of October, 200,000 toy models were not completed. The manager estimated that they had reached the 25% production stage. The rest were finished and sold during October.
