Task:Your task is to answer the following question in two ways. What is the probability that a randomly selected student from this group will write between 1900-2200 words. You can assume that this is the population data for 2020-2021.

Method 1: Area of the raw data with trapeziums. (See slides 1-5 from week 8).

  1. Create a column graph of the data above. You will need to fill out the table first. In your column graph use the midpoint for the x-axis (why?) and format the graph so the gap between columns is zero (why?). Think about what the y-axis would be.
  2. Draw a line graph starting at zero at 1100 to the centre of each column back to zero at 2700 (see slides 1-5 week 8)
  3. Find the area and hence probability required by finding the appropriate area under the graph.
