Question 14 (7 points) A student performs an experiment to measure the magnetic field strength produced by a current carrying conductor in an external magnetic field as shown below. She connects a wire to a variable power supply to control the current through the wire. One way to measure the magnetic force is to place two magnets on a top-pan balance. The current through the wire causes an upward force on the wire. By Newton's third law an equal but opposite force pushes the magnets downwards and the increase in downward force is measured on the top-pan balance. A 3.0 cm length of wire was placed within the magnetic field of a permanent magnet and the current was varied and the corresponding force was recorded. The data she obtained is shown below as well as the corresponding graph. Yoke with ceramic Clamp magnets on B 298.100 Clamp Top-pan balance 10 Trial Current (A] Magnetic Force (x 10')N 0.50 0.96 1.0 1.9 1.5 2.8 2.0 3.8 Fm (x10-2N) 2.5 4.8 3.0 5.8 3.5 6.7 4.0 7.7 4.5 8.7 5.0 9. 6 2 I (A) a) Will the electron flow through the wire be clockwise or counterclockwise? State your answer all lower case. b) What type of relationship between the magnetic force and the current does the graph support? State your answer as one word. c) Determine the slope of the line of best fit on the graph. State your answer to two significant digits. Do not use scientific notation nor state units. d) Using the slope, determine the value of the magnetic field strength. State your answer to two significant digits. Do not use scientific notation nor state units
