Question
A spherical mass of 5.0 g is hanging from a thread that is positioned between two plates that area distance of 20.0 cm apart.
A spherical mass of 5.0 g is hanging from a thread that is positioned between two plates that area distance of 20.0 cm apart. The sphere has a charge of 6.2 C and is deflected by an angle of 0 from the vertical as is evidenced in the figure below. What would the potential difference between the plates need to b for the angle of deflection to be 30 (i.e. 9= 30)? Give the answer in units of V. Note that the sphere has mass and is accordingly acted on by gravity so there will be a gravitational force present.
