Read Chapter 3 of Gould, F., and Joyce, N. Construction Project Management, 4th Edition, Pearson, 2014. PROBLEM: Read the book of Nehemiah (chapters 1-13). As you read, pay particular attention to how Nehemiah approached the management of the construction of the wall around Jerusalem. Recognize that Nehemiah was a cupbearer, not a construction foreman, and yet God gave him a lot of wisdom about how to handle this massive undertaking. Write a short paper outlining the story of Nehemiah and identify the project management lessons we can learn from this book. You should be able to relate these lessons to modern scenarios. For example, we probably don't need to worry too much about how to respond to people who show up at our jobsites and mock us (this is uncommon at the American civil engineering job site, and our laws alleviate most concerns about physical threats), however, we CAN learn something about how to respond to opposition and how to protect and care for those who work under our supervision. In addition to a brief introduction and conclusion, please subdivide your paper into the following sections as you provide a brief recap of relevant events and as you highlight project management lessons: Planning and Pre-construction Construction Responding to Challenges Post-Construction Your paper should be written as an argument with a thesis that reflects the assignment above. Cite the verses that support your arguments (such as each management lesson). Keep quotations to a minimum - I am more interested in seeing your thoughts in this paper than simply a selection of quoted verses. Be careful not to copy other authors' writing (plagiarism). Use complete sentences and paragraphs writing style. Include informative figures, tables or images with captions and citations where appropriate. Your writing should reflect your status as a college student: grammatical and typographical errors should not be present. Your score will be reduced by at least one letter grade if it is obvious from your submission that you did not proofread your work. Your paper should be 1000 -1200 words when completed, including titles and citations. At the end of your paper include a bibliography citing the version of the Bible you read from as well as any additional sources you incorporated.
