1. Let's say you think that when people are anxious about having to speak in public, they will do poorly on a reaction time-based cognitive task you've designed. You want to design a study that induces (or creates) public-speaking anxiety in your subjects before they do the cognitive task.
2. Let's say you think that people rate others' attractiveness based on how familiar the person looks. Let's also say that you know that people show more physiological arousal when they see pictures of people they find attractive when compared with those they do not find attractive. You want to design a study that tests whether subjects will find familiar people more attractive.
3. Let's say you think that kindergarten kids will pay better attention in school if they know they will be rewarded for good behavior at the end of the day. You want to design a study that tests this idea.
4. Let's say you think that watching a violent movie desensitizes people to subsequently encountered violent stimuli. You want to design a study that examines whether people experience less physiological arousal when looking at violent pictures after viewing a violent movie.
5. Let's say you think that people who are athletic and in good physical shape read complex passages more carefully than others. (How might ceiling or floor effects come into play here?)
