Before you begin the discussion, take some time to explore policy/societal issues that interest you as well as the various past or present policies (e.g., laws, acts, ordinances, executive orders) related to those issues. Whether you begin with a policy issue or a specific policy, the point is to connect the two and then consider what you can do as a citizen to improve the situation at the governmental level. In other words, what can you do to change public policy to address a societal concern?

Identify a policy/societal issue that interests you.
Explain the issue and why it is of interest to you.
Identify a specific policy (past or present) that impacts this issue.
Summarize the key points of the policy.
Share one thing you would do to change policy and make things better (e.g., petition your local government, hold a protest, create a public service announcement to raise awareness, raise funding)
