With the time spent on the vendor's testing, loading, transportation, DC's appointment scheduling, inventory receiving and warehouse management, another 2-3 days are deducted from the already short shelf life. Another challenge with milk is, the dump of milk is difficult and expensive due to its high BOD and contamination natures if exposed during disposition. Luckily, the demand of milk is less volatile. The underage cost is the cost of missed demand fulfillment and lost sales. The overage cost is the the cost of wasted product cost, freight cost, handling cost and dump cost
