I read Senate Bill No. 667, chapter 497. It got approved by Governor on October 8, 2023. The bill knows as "Healing arts: pregnancy and childbirth". It authorizes a certified nurse-midwife to take care of low-risk pregnancy and provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care. Also, certified nurse-midwife can admit, discharge, and care for common gynecologic conditions within the nurse-midwife's scope of practice. This bill additionally authorizes a certified nurse-midwife to give or order Schedule IV or V controlled substance medications while following standardize protocols and follow a patient-specific protocol approved by a physician and surgeon when ordering Schedule II or III controlled substances for any condition. This legislation helps certified nurse-midwife to practice more easily and take care of their patient better. It also helps with medical costs.
