As a kid, I was a big fan of Chuck E. Cheese, growing up in the early 2000s, I probably went to dozens of birthday parties held at the establishment. I probably haven't returned there since 2007 or so. Before watching this video, I hadn't had many opinions on the establishment. I just recalled having great memories there from when I was young and imagined kids would be experiencing similar things now. However, upon watching the video I think that Chuck E. Cheese is a victim of being outgrown as children today are most likely more interested in more modern games, despite Chuck E. Cheese's efforts to modernize. I think that their downfall is similar to Toys R Us as mentioned in the video.

When theorizing strategies to help Chuck E. Cheese, I came up with a sort of out-of-the-box idea and that is to take advantage of the trend of nostalgia, which I believe is going to be a long-lasting one. As stated in the video, the peak for Chuck E. Cheese was in the late 90s and 2000s, and to bring those customers back in by banking on nostalgia, Chuck E. Cheese can offer adult-only hours past 9 pm or so, where they feature a bar and adults can gather to drink and play arcade games and feel like a kid again. I think this would be successful for two reasons, the first being that arcade bars are incredibly popular already, second being that it brings Chuck E. Cheese's name back into circulation in this older market. Additionally, I believe that drink sales would bring in more profit for the establishment, plus when people are drinking they usually want to order food as well.

I'm unsure if Chuck E. Cheese will survive without coming up with a drastic change for its current business model. As I previously mentioned, I think that kids these days have different interests and Chuck E. Cheese isn't meeting whatever those interests may be. Also, I recall the food being pretty below mediocre, so unless that has changed, it's not something that really drives customers to visit, they visit for the games. However, they have come back once before, so maybe it is possible again. It would be sad to hear Chuck E. Cheese may have to go out of business as someone who loved it as a kid, but at this point, that seems most likely to me.

Example 1

Great post! We share similar opinions on the corporation, and I too also remember going to dozens of birthday parties when I was a kid at the establishment. I did not think about the correlation to Toys R Us and how a generation of kids outgrew that particular industry, and it seems to be happening with Chuck E. Cheese as well. I think your idea of having an after-hours is great only if they implement an updated entertainment system. Whether if its live music, bar vibes, or better virtual reality games, it would be great to kind of give the corporation a push in the right direction. Kids these days have different interest, and their entertainment is at their disposal in the snap of a finger, so we'll see.

Example 2

Hi Grace, you have written a great discussion post. As a child, I also went to Chuck E. Cheese several times for birthday parties, games, and food. It is true Chuck E. Cheese is a victim of being outgrown since children may prefer modern games, which are easily accessible over the internet, to traditional games. However, I believe there are other ways the brand can adopt to engage children and parents. Regarding strategies that may help the brand, I think introducing a bar for adults during adult-only hours is an excellent idea for Chuck E. Cheese. However, don't you think this strategy will make the brand lose its nostalgia trend? I am also not sure whether Chuck E. Cheese will survive post-COVID. However, maybe they have a chance if they clear the debt and restructure.
