The alternative currency that I've personally used before is bitcoin. A pro with using bitcoin is, for example as the money supply grows more than the growth of bitcoin, the price of bitcoin will increase. Therefore because of increase in demand the value will rise which may keep up with the market and prevent inflation. Also bitcoin is considered to be "decentralized", no government organization can control the worthiness of the coin or the flow of it. Some disadvantages I could think of, using bitcoin currencies is the fact that once you perform a transaction or purchase bitcoin it is non refundable. Which makes some people more skeptical, as well as the price volatility. After doing some more research on bitcoin I read that once the FBI declared that bitcoin would be treated as other financial services, the value went up. But after a security breach the value fell more than 50 percent which makes investment difficult
