Types of Communication: A Company Presentation
Jared works at the head office of a major athletic apparel company. He is visiting a regional office to give a presentation about a new line of running apparel that features fabrics made using breakthrough technologies. Mike is a sales representative at the regional office. He has been looking forward to the presentation since he first heard about it, because he is an avid runner and wants to learn about one of the breakthrough fabrics for running apparel that has fourway stretch and is waterproof, breathable, and lightweight.
On the day of the presentation Mike is running a bit late, because he and his wife have a month-old baby and Mike hasn't been getting much sleep. By skipping his morning coffee, Mike makes it to the presentation with seconds to spare, and he takes the only seat available, which is toward the front of the room and next to a malfunctioning heater that cloesn't turn off. Even though Mike is fascinated by the engaging presentation, the combination of the heat and the lack of sleep and coffee cause him to nod off. Jared notices that Mike is falling asleep and becomes upset. Jared worked very hard on his presentation and is offended that Mike didn't find it interesting enough to stay awake. After the presentation he talks to Mike's supervisor and insists that Mike be disciplined for his rude and hostile behavior.
Which of the following of Mike's behaviors during the presentation is likely to be an intentional message?
