Research Methods in Education: Data Analysis and Interpretation Assignment Beth Towne teaches 3th grade. She has been wondering if her teaching is equally effective for the boys and girls in her class. She remembered what she learned in a research course and decided to find out. She kept an excel file of what she thought might be relevant variables and test scores for reading and math. Analyze Beth's data to describe the students and to see if there is a difference between the boys and girls test scores. You will need the excel data, data dictionary, you tube videos (and the step-by-step instructions if necessary), and the effect size calculator. 1) Create a frequency table for gender. 2) Select either math or reading posttest scores. Report the values of the three measures of central tendency and the standard deviation. 3) Use the math or reading posttest score selected above to examine the difference in scores between girls and boys. Determine what test to run. A) Provide the p value. B) Is the difference statistically significant? 4) Using the math or reading posttest score selected above, determine the magnitude of the difference between boys and girls. You will need the mean, standard deviation and frequency for each gender. A) What does this effect size mean (i.e. small, medium, or large)? B) Which group scored higher? C) Provide all the information needed to conduct this test (mean, standard deviation and number of students in each group). 5) Given the results above, what conclusions can Beth make about how her teaching and gender differences? What might Beth do based on these results?
