Respond to the post below, assume the role of the supervisor or manager, and explain how you would resolve the situation, and the actions, if any, the employee should take.

Hello,

If I was working within a two person team on a project at work and the other person continues to make mistakes that they shouldn't be making then I would flag the problem with our manager which would fall under the see something say something phrase. The way I see it - is that we either succeed as one team or we fail as one team. The individual struggling with mistakes obviously needs some additional oversight from the manager and requires additional training. If the individual continues to make the same mistakes after additional training and oversight from the manager then this would open us up to another conversation possibly talking about the termination of this employee.

If we are both reaching for the same promotion then its apparent that I should let my quality of work and work ethics do the talking - its important to make sure you get credit for the work and time that you are putting in. I am pulling double the weight to make sure the project is successful which is something I am unfortunately acquainted too - one too many times. Promotions can be competitive and sometimes unfair especially in large global corporations but at the end of the day I trust that the manager promotes the employee who deserves it and if a promotion is given to an employee who is continuing to make mistakes then it's safe to say I will be putting in my two week notice to take my quality of work, dedication and respect elsewhere.

To be a team player and showcase to your management that you are ready to be a leader its important not to shame your colleagues but to step up and offer help to your struggling colleagues but always keep your management in the loop so they are aware of what is happening; this makes you look good and shows you are ready to be a leader.
