She was genuinely concerned for her employees' well-being, work ethic, and workplace satisfaction. "Sam" was easily approachable when concerns arose, took the time to actively listen, and provided solutions. The least effective leader was "Bob". He took a more authoritative approach yet was rarely available. When problems arose, "Bob" was usually unavailable leaving the employees to guess what the correct solution was. He was not encouraging, and praise was rarely given for well-done jobs. His leadership style was one of convenience, which left the company in financial distress and the employees unmotivated and unhappy. Working with both individuals who exhibited different leadership styles, I was much happier with "Sam" as my supervisor. The feeling of support and encouragement makes an enormous difference as an employee. A business has to be profitable and must be run accordingly, but if employees are unhappy and unmotivated, the business will not be profitable, and retention will be an issue
