RFP Scope Our last business expansion was significantly impacted by the use of outdated network infrastructure equipment. The requirement to keep the government business completely separate from our commercial business takes a toll in cost because of the complicated ad-hoc developed solutions. We are looking at a complete redesign of the network using a combination of wireless and wired infrastructure. We need to follow the NIST standards in the implementation of the solution. Due to our production requirements we will like to segment our network into several networks, based on the needs of each department. The quality of the equipment and high availability of the design are the main objectives, within our shareholder imposed budgetary limits. The final proposal must address these problems with a complete solution. Required items: A list of new equipment, cost associated and type of maintenance necessary A logical diagram of the proposed network design. Note: Due to the dificulty of including a large number off hosts and to make the diagram easy to read we will accept a diagram where only 4 hosts per department are represented. A network simulation (using a network simulator such as CISCO's Packet Tracer), showing the functionality of the network The network should ensure uptime of 99.999% by using hardware redundancies and other high availability methods.. Desired items: A core/distribution/access design is preferred A description of the advantages of implementing the proposed design Ease a maintenance, allowing for any deice to be removed without interrupting the data flow A discussion on how the data flows through this network. Provisionimg for future growth Assignment sections 1. Introduction. In this section you will be considering the requirements listed in the RFP Make a list of them (or a table if this suits your mode of presentation, and indicate in general terms how you will be addressing it (or if not, why not; possibly you have an alternative). You will be selecting RIP as the routing protocol, and you could include a brief discussion about RIP, its features and shortcomings. You may want to use RIPv2. Show that the Network Operation center (NOC) the customer intends to implement, may require additional infrastructures such as for example, a separate management network. requirement to have the two sides of the company (gov and com), and how are you addressing it. The Introduction section should be addressing your design in general, without a lot of technical details 2. Network Infrastructure. Calculate the number and type of routers needed, the number of switches, location of the devices. cabling, access points. Complete the Equipment table. Include the NOC in your design, as an option. You can use a combination of WiFi and Ethernet media. Separate router ports from hosts by using switches. Complete the Equipment table Design. Each department will have its own router port. This means each department will be on a different subnet. There can be any number of routers, based on your design. Consider the high availability requirement; for critical devices such as routers. You can use IPv4 and IPv6. You will use a class B private space address range if using IPv4. You will determine how many LANs you will need to create. Mandatory: You will use a Class B subnetted network. Make sure the mask reflects the correct subnetting. 3. Consider also the possibility to use VLANs for some of the extended LANs. Based on the number of LANs determine how you will subnet the address space to be able to address all hosts. Complete the IP Addressing table for 5 devices per LAN. The separation between the government and commercial divisions can be achieved in many ways. For example, you could use different routing protocols for the two division and do not advertise the routes to each other. You could also implement filtering based on IP address ranges. In this section you should include specifics regarding how the design addresses the requirements listed in the RFP. This is the main technical section. 4. Functional; that means that a ping from one end of the network should be returned by any host on the network. Discuss the benefits of the two designs (Assignment \#1 and Assignment \#2)
